Hole Bead
How do I make the holes in beads bigger?
I bought beads yesterday and I would like to put them on a leather cord. The cord is not very thick but the holes in the beads are tiny. Is there anyway I could make the holes bigger? Do I need to use a certain tool? If I do need to use a tool where could I buy it? I live close to a Michaels and about an hour away from a Hobby Lobby, would they sell the tool?
If you can't buy and don't have a bead reamer of the size you need, you can also drill the holes larger if the bead material allows that with a drill bit. For most materials, just regular drill bits will be fine. The bead may need to be held in a vise (padded with tape/etc) or otherwise held stable while drilling.
You can use the drill bit in an electric drill, a mechanical "hand drill," or even held temporarily in a "pin vise" or baked permanently into a polymer clay handle then just twist the bit into the bead hole.
If there's a big difference in size now from what you want, use progressively larger drill bits (and do that definitely if you think the bead material will chip or end up with an ragged opening).
